Dear Commission G members,
ICSU is planning a major initiative for an International Polar Year =
in 2007/2008, aimed at promoting intensified investigation of the role =
of polar regions in the Earth system.=20
You will see in the enclosed documents that the proposal is focused =
on global climate, biogeochemistry and ecosystems and that one of the =
general principle is to help setting intense coordinated polar =
observations and analysis that would not otherwise occur. One of the =
questions is therefore to know if such an IPY can bring a new impetus to =
upper atmosphere / solar terrestrial physics, given that the instrument =
networks (space or ground-based) dedicated to high-latitude regions is =
already dense.
In order to forward a commission G reply to the URSI secretariat, =
please send me your suggestions or comments as soon as possible. The =
deadline is the end of October.
